In Support of Cord Blood Research |

PROJECT HISTORY |
||
![]() |
||
| Small Beginnings | ||
| After the launching of the Cord Blood Project in June 2001 the enthusiasm of the members increased, and the Executive of Inner Wheel Australia decided that a Sub-Committee should be formed. This Committee comprised Anne McGill, Robyn Murray, Vivienne Anderson, a Coordinator from each of the fifteen Districts and from the Inner Wheel Club of Darwin Combined. | ||
| An Annual National Cord Blood Day | ||
A National Day was set – this being the last Friday in April each year, when Clubs were asked to set up stands in public places and promote the Project and Inner Wheel to the public. Merchandise showing the Inner Wheel Australia cord blood logo was distributed to the Clubs to sell to the public. Clubs supported the National Project in many ways – setting up stands, running functions, putting boxes of merchandise in shops, hospitals and many other public places. |
||
| 2003-2004 | ||
In 2003-2004 ‘Wompro’ came on board to provide advice on promotional gear and appropriate merchandise. Today, they are still providing their help and support free of charge. Plush Films were instrumental in developing a community video clip with the appearance of Jean Kittson, Journalist and TV personality, adding greatly to the content. A Cord Blood Brochure was produced for distribution to the public and has been updated at appropriate intervals. |

| 2005-2006 | ||
The Inner Wheel Australia Christmas Card was introduced in 2005-2006 and has been a great addition to fundraising each year. At the IIW Convention held in New Zealand in 2006, a stand was set up to promote the National Project to members from around the world. Many spontaneous donations were made and information was taken back to many other countries. |
||
| 2008-2009 | ||
From the beginning until 2008-2009 transport of merchandise was organised free of charge to the main cities by John Eddy, a Rotarian from Lilydale. Since then Ned Amezroz, a Rotarian from Highton, has kindly organised the transport free of charge through his company, Wettenhalls Transport. In 2009 a plaque was mounted on the wall of the Cord Blood Bank at the Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Victoria acknowledging the support given by Inner Wheel Australia members to Cord Blood Research. For the first time in 2009 at the Inner Wheel Australia National Conference in Wangaratta, Victoria, a formal presentation of Research Grants was made during the Business Session. |
||
| The Project Continues | ||
Continuation of the project is decided every three years by Inner Wheel Australia members at the Annual Conference and this decision will again be made in October 2011. |
