Clubs working together to aid bushfire victims in Victoria |
||||||||||||||
The generosity of several New South Wales clubs is providing further aid to victims of the 2009 Victorian bushfires with the presentation of 24 beautiful quilts made by talented members of Gosford North, District A52 NSW, to the members of Morwell, A62 Victoria at the national conference in Wangaratta.
Gosford North's idea had been 'on the bubble' for some time after contact was initially made with Morwell club - "What could they do to help those in need?" Although the club normally has a well stocked sewing cupboard, they were beginning to run out of suitable fabric. It was then that Narrabri (A55) member, Barbara McNamara heard of the plans to make quilts for Victoria and donated five large boxes of beautiful fabric. These were delivered door to door, 400 kms, by Narrabri member, Patricia Phillips, who was on her way to St Huberts Island to look after her little grandchild. Terrigal (A52) member, Jan Tomlin also donated fabric and a cash donation from Terrigal club towards batting was gratefully received, enabling the project to continue. The quilts were made by the Gosford North members on a number of group sewing days organised by one of their quilters. They all agree that sewing days are great 'fun' days and that they do as much talking and laughing as sewing! Friendship, fun and service go hand in hand.
The quilts were lovingly packed for their journey to Wangaratta where they were unwrapped and laid out for their presentation to Morwell. With so much work still to be achieved in the fire districts, the quilts will be distributed gradually on a personal basis as the needs of victims are made known.
Congratulations to all who were involved in this wonderful joint project. |
