One hundred guests gathered at historic ‘Strathavon’, Wyong, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Charter of the Inner Wheel Club of Wyong, NSW District A52, on 24 April 2009.  Many beautiful cards and messages were received from Inner Wheel friends from all over Australia.

Some travelled long distances and it was wonderful to see many former members renewing and enjoying old friendships and reflecting on good times past. 

An interesting static display provided an insight into the club’s early history, accompanied by photos and profiles of past IWA Presidents Georgia Laws  (1975/76) (who was also Charter President), Robyn Murray (2002/2003) and incoming IWA President, Lorraine Hyde.  A succession of Club Historians  faithfully recorded 50 years of club history in the albums on display – what a revelation to look back on fashion through the decades and photos of long standing members 25 or so years ago looking remarkably young and chic, (and then, of course, to see how gracefully they had matured)!

The dining room was dressed in traditional colours of blue and gold and the birthday cake, beautifully decorated with the Inner Wheel logo and red roses, was cut by President Sheila, incoming President Lyn Christie and faithful long time member Elizabeth Belshaw.

IIW Board Member, Val Corva, proposed the Toast to International Wheel, Gosford IW President, Cecily Roberts delivered a message of congratulations, and IWA President Joan Beech Jones presented President Sheila Maddams with the new collar and 50-Year jewel.

Taking a nostalgic journey back in time, four talented members of the Gosford Musical Society entertained with songs from the popular 1950s musical, “The Pajama Game”, recently performed at Gosford’s Laycock Theatre.

It was a very happy occasion and the photos depict some memorable moments.
